For Instance, one university isn’t able to provide different types of majors in the country. However, in the city there are wide ranges of colleges, such as universities, community colleges, technical colleges, and vocational schools that offer more educational choices than in the country. Plus, with a larger number of universities, you can go to the one that specializes or is strong in your field. Nowadays a lot of high school students get their diploma and move out in the city to further their education. In city schools are more diverse because of more foreign students; however, it is unlikely to see a foreigner getting an education in the country. Not because the students in the country are not as intelligent as in the city, but it is because they have been provided with fewer resources and technology. Yet, some students still prefer to stay in the country and continue their education just because they want to live in their hometown or to live close to their family; therefore, this will limit their educational choices. Moreover, the city provides more entertainment than country living. Museums, zoos, dances, dramas, party, music concerts, speeches by politicians, movie theaters, restaurants, and nightlife are all to be found in the city. A person living in the city has far more access to all of these types of entertainment than people living in the country. In the city people can go to the museums with family and gain more knowledge of history. Parents can take their children to the zoo and get entertainment. There are numerous dancing and drama academies one can join in the city. In the city, big celebrities come and do music concerts and big politicians come which brings more diversion to people living in the city. Movie theaters are to be found in every couple of blocks of the city, which makes it easier for people who are living nearby to go watch a movie with family and friends. An Urge to Write Everyone seems to have a reason for liking or disliking writing. It seems to stem from past experiences, or things writing has done for someone or not done for someone. For me, writing is a privilege and I enjoy writing immensely. It’s hard to put my finger on one distinct reason I take pleasure in writing but I think one of the causes for my appreciation of writing stems back to about two years ago. I was a sophomore in high school, and it was basically a tradition that my friend Jess and I would get together sporadically on various Friday nights. She would come to my house in the early evening hours, and we would start our walk. As soon as we would turn the corner of my block I’d light up my cigarette and we’d begin our recollection of the week’s events. On one particular Friday in October we began our walk as we had any other. The air had a cool brisk quality about it but we weren’t really bothered by the sudden chill and just kept walking. We walked throughout town for a few hours just walking and talking, laughing and acting hysterical and crazy over the most minute details of that week’s happenings. We walked till the street lights shown bright on the black streets before us and then we went to our usual stop after our walk. We entered the restaurant just like we had so many times before. We took our seat at the regular booth with the torn vinyl and wooden sides etched with the signatures of the many who had sat in the booth before us. The air reeked of grease and cigarette smoke and was polluted by the sound of senseless chatter from the thirty or so people that crowded this tiny room the size of a large closet. Separate Pasts takes place during the 1950’s in Melton A. McLaurin’s small hometown, Wade, North Carolina. It is a detailed story of his boyhood in the rural South, which was a time when racism was a daily norm. McLaurin argues that racism existed unchallenged in the rural South. I found that this argument is valid due to the personal experiences that he had to face while growing up in the rural South, which he describes in great detail. McLaurin grew up with the knowledge that whites were treated very differently than blacks and not thinking anything of it. Although blacks and whites were demanded to work together in the village, he noticed that everyone played a different role based off their race.
